Katarina Wit began skating at five years old. Soon, her talents were evident and she was accepted to Karl-Marx Stadt's special schools. In this school, she was introduced to her teacher Jutta Muler. Witt achieved her breakthrough in the second position she placed at the 1982 World Championships, held in Copenhagen. Her grace and elegance captured everybody's eye, and from that point onwards she was dominating the game. Olympic success Katarina Wit won gold in the women's ice skaters at Sarajevo Winter Games 1984. Sarajevo Winter Games 1984 after a highly competitive and intense contest. A few years later she took home an even tighter contest. The free skater was unable to win however, she took home the gold medal in the figure that was compulsory as well as her short programme. Witt was the first repeat medalist in figure skating for women in the sport since Sonja Henie. Hall of Fame Witt competed in the Lillehammer Winter Games in 1994 following a career that was successful acting. People were captivated by her, despite her having finished seventh. Witt received her induction to the World Figure Skating Hall of Fame, 1995.
